Golf Course Maintenance Equipment List: Every Machine a Course Needs

A golf course is only as good as the fleet behind it. This is the full equipment list, job by job, with the brands SGDC supplies and services in India.

By SGDC Insight Desk ·

Ask ten superintendents for a maintenance equipment list and you will get ten lists, because every course has its own holes, grasses and budget. But the jobs are the same everywhere. This is the complete list, organised by the job each machine does, with the brands SGDC India supplies and services. For an interactive version, use the fleet builder on our brands page: pick your hole count and it suggests quantities.

Mowing

  • Greens mowers. Walk-behind or ride-on reel mowers cutting at 2.5 to 4 mm. Jacobsen Eclipse 360 (lithium or hybrid), GP400, Eclipse 2 walk mowers. A typical 18-hole course runs two or three ride-on greens mowers plus walk mowers for tournaments.
  • Tees and approaches. Triplex reel mowers such as the Jacobsen GP400 or Greens King, often shared with greens on smaller courses.
  • Fairway mowers. Five-reel lightweight fairway mowers: Jacobsen SLF1 ELiTE lithium, SLF530, LF550 and LF570. Two for 18 holes is common.
  • Rough and wide areas. Rotary mowers such as the Jacobsen AR series and HR series, Ransomes HR380 and MP653, Lastec articulating decks for undulating rough, Wessex flail and roller mowers for the outfield.
  • Trim and contour. Jacobsen TR320 and TR330 for bunker surrounds and slopes.

Surface quality

  • Greens rollers. Tru-Turf RB48, RB70 or the electric RE50. Rolling keeps speed up with less mowing stress in Indian heat.
  • Topdressers. TurfTime topdressers and drag mats for sand programmes on greens and tees.
  • Verticutters and groomers. Thatch control on greens, with Wiedenmann Terra Rake for larger areas.

Aeration and renovation

  • Deep aeration. Wiedenmann Terra Spike for fairways and sports fields.
  • Core aeration. Wiedenmann Terra Core, Classen aerators for tees and smaller areas.
  • Core collection. Wiedenmann Core Recycler, Wessex sweepers and collectors.

Bunkers and sand

  • Bunker rakes. Smithco mechanical rakes for daily raking.
  • Bunker construction. Capillary bunker liners, Capillary Edge and the Wash Box, which cleans sand in place instead of replacing it.

Spraying and feeding

  • Sprayers. Team Sprayers mounted and demount sprayers with GPS and anti-drift options.
  • Fertiliser spreaders. Pedestrian and tractor-mounted spreaders.

Water

  • Irrigation. Rain Bird rotors, the IC System and CirrusPRO central control.
  • Lakes and ponds. Otterbine aerating fountains and diffused aeration.

Transport and utility

  • Utility vehicles. Cushman Hauler 800, Hauler PRO and Hauler 1200 for crews, sand, tools and spraying.
  • Golf carts. E-Z-GO fleet carts for members and guests; Cushman Shuttles for staff and hospitality.

Workshop

  • Reel and bedknife grinders. Bernhard Express Dual and Anglemaster. A sharp cut is turf health; every course mowing reels should own or have access to a grinder.
  • Hand tools and accessories. Standard Golf course accessories, Turf-Tec testing tools, Wittek range and ball-washing equipment, Pitchmark line markers for sports fields.

Sizing the fleet

A nine-hole course can run on roughly half the mowing fleet of an 18-hole course, but still needs one of each specialist machine. A 27 or 36-hole facility needs more fairway and greens units and usually a second utility vehicle per crew. Climate matters too: Indian courses mow more often in the growing season and need rollers and sprayers that can keep up.
